Creation and development of a new program called Active Tolerance Program, based on the success of their Dance Awareness Program, and created to disrupt systemic discrimination and racism in youth populations across BC. Versions of the program will be delivered to students from K-12.
Raising the Curtain$25,000 Award
Phase three of a community-engaged arts project that explores the lived experience of dementia through visual arts, photography, story-telling, music, dance and theatre. The organization is partnering with professional performing arts organization, Deer Crossing the Art Farm Society.
Arts-Based Cultural Mapping of the Opioid Crisis – Courtenay and Kamloops, BC$25,000 Award
Funds to assist with an artist-led, community-centred cultural mapping process examining the opioid crisis in both Courtenay and Kamloops, BC. The project includes extensive working groups in each community, including social service agencies, health authorities and First Nations communities.
EastVan Hip Hop Drop$25,000 Award
Funds to assist with the delivery of a weekly program for marginalized youth led by young Indigenous artists. This project will help support individuals but also provide a model for institutional change in community centres across BC.
Carving on the Edge Festival 2016$25,000 Award
To support the 2016 Carving on the Edge Festival featuring First Nations carvers from BC’s west coast in collaboration with the Raincoast Education Society. This unique festival brings together the teachings and experiences of career master carvers who wish to pass on a lifetime of knowledge, study and skill.
Kema Experiences$29,000 award
To support Kema: A Good Place, a multi-sensory, interactive, digitally-enhanced mobile art exhibit featuring contemporary artistic expressions of the Dane-zaa culture and showcasing its stories, traditions and wisdom. Together with related cultural programming, the exhibit creates Kema Experiences, a transformative movement rooted in cultural knowledge, preservation and sharing. They are partnering with the Doig River First Nation Community Development and Health and Social Developments departments.
